Christ Church in Lucknow

This church is based in the Hazratganj area of Lucknow and was built by the British in 1860. The metallic cross, gorgeous railings and three floor tower offers some of the most charming look to the church. Also, the several encarvings done over the doors and windows too add an edge to the aesthetic value of this church. As per the records, the Christ Church is the very first Church of Northern India (CNI) and ranks the 3rd one in India. The church carries one important feature – the engaged five-storey pointed tower. Over the doors and windows you would find Gothic arches having arabesque frames for the stained glass panels. The prayer hall inside the Christ Church is very much impressive for lofty recessed arches and spaciousness surrounded over the tall circular pilasters. It carries aesthetically designed wooden altar. The beautiful window at the altar carries the stained glass panels showcasing several holy figures.

Old Methodist Church in Lucknow

This is one of the oldest churches in Lucknow and has a great importance for the Christian community since this was the very place where the Christian services in the city started in 1858 by William Butler. However, in 1870, the first congregation was formally organized by known Evangelist, Taylor wherein he gave his first sermon. The present day church was later built in 1877. The cruciform plan of the Old Methodist Church has followed the conventional pattern whereas the tri-arched opening of the portico comes with a slanting roof having crowned by a number of ornamental crosses. The recessed pointed arch is in the form of Gothic, while the church was constructed using brick and then was covered with white lime plaster. The construction and structure of the three-storey tower found in this church is incredible having metallic cross and a conical spire. The middle floor carries a set of two arched windows backed by circular ventilators over all the sides. All the slanting roofs are covered with ornamental crosses.

Church of the Epiphany in Lucknow

This incredibly designed Church was constructed in 1877. The front elevation of Church of the Epiphany is simply remarkable with a five-storeyed tower, which is seen rising above the main entrance. This tower is flanked by two different solid turrets while its steep verticality is seen getting balanced by smaller size tapering towers over the four different corners. The regular features of this tower are the rectangular ventilators and the arched windows. If you compare the prayer hall of Church of the Epiphany with the Christ Church, it happens to be very much similar in terms of design and other things. Several other important features of the church include the tri arched windows, pillared arches and wooden altar.

Central Methodist Church in Lucknow

This church was established in 1859 by the first pastor of these historical religious places called Rev Joel Janvier (also the first Methodist convert). The Central Methodist Church has an imposing building carrying projecting portico, a square tower having Indo-European design parapets and circular ventilators having the small and solid towers over the corners. The spacious prayer hall carries the tri-arched windows with the central one being the biggest in size. The church has the history of 24 pastors serving till date while the current Pastor is Rev Dr. Herbert Able. The church has several events and services for poor and downtrodden in the area. Its membership tolls around 4763 in the city.

All Saints Garrison Church in Lucknow

This is one of the most beautiful churches in Lucknow but can be called as a deserted one at the moment. Though you can find a couple of small congregations happening here in All Saints Garrison Church but it is non operational. It is surrounded by a big neglected compound having loads of bushes and wild trees. Only seldom Sundays you will find few people collecting here and carrying out some religious rituals. Though it is one of the most beautiful churches in the city but at the moment it is ironically a secluded place. If you want peace and solitude, this could be a right church to visit in Lucknow.

This church is one of modern churches in Lucknow, which was built in 1997 being managed by the group called Paul Educational Society headed by John Thomas Raja.
